Anyone else not too excited about Shine a Light? feels like the only reason to see it will be Scorsese playing comic relief.

The clips look like every concert documentary I've ever seen, which, Scorsese has warned, is all it is. I just kinda feel sad, he had a chance of doing a kind of Last Waltz sort of looking production, with GLORIOUS colors, strikingly INTENSE camerawork, a little of that. A lot of the clips have Mick complain about cameras hiding the concert from the audience, but I'd think, in an enterprise like this, he'd give a little. The Band did!

Granted Robbie Robertson and Scorsese were drug-fuelled best friends at the time, so the group prolly coulda been convinced into doing anything. But, really, I don't need to hear "Brown Sugar" or "Start Me Up" live AGAIN on a tv screen. I've got all their albums, the songs sound better there anyways.

I guess it's worth seeing for the Scorsese bits. But I feel prematurely let down. I'm sure others are too. Or what? Any thoughts?

I am so glad I found this community, holy crap. Okay, I talk/think about directors constantly. I mean, enough that last night when I saw Walk Hard there was this woman who looked like Maya Rudolph and I said, "Oh, hey, is that Paul Thomas Anderson's girlfriend?" The girl I was with stared at me and said, "...I don't know." And then I was like, "Uh, y'know, what's-her-name...Maya Rudolph."

I obsess about directors so much that I actually created a slash RP based around directors. What can I say? I just really wanted to be like, "Oh, man, Spike was hooking up with Steven Soderbergh, but then he cheated on him with Quentin Tarantino but he actually wants Rob Zombie..." It's a disease. Yeah, I actually joined this with my in-character Spike Jonze RP journal because I wasn't thinking.

Anyway...so glad this forum exists. Thank you. For existing.

amnesia films.
i am looking for films using amnesia as a major plot device (e.g. the bourne identity). i am leaning toward thrillers, but am pretty much open to anything amnesia-related (even amnesia sub-plots). any suggestions (or comments about amnesia films at all)?

Advice for a director and stress?
Hi everyone!
So, I'm a student director directing a show for a festival. Anyway, today was a pretty bad rehersal, in a stressful way. Or should I say people were really angry at me. We have 10 rehersals left (one month, March 5th) until our show goes up, and we dont have a script. I sat down yesterday for 6 hours and wrote one. Its most of the dialogue, and people were really pissed at me that I waited that long to write it. People were also pissed that I didn't use any dialogue they had written, as I told them to (most of it got lost anyway, which they also weren't happy about at me for. However, it was my codirectors parents who lost it).
For one thing, they were going to get the script today heedless of when I wrote it. And for another thing, I told them when I was first going to write the script that I reserved the right to edit and not use anything they gave me.

Several of my actors were very worried about how much time we had, and that they didn't have a script. One actor even said that she was considering walking, which was kinda bad as she was pretty important... Anyway, I managed to get things under control and everyone was happy... except me.

This is where my need for advice comes in... sorry for ranting.
Everyone's stress, everyone's frustration, rubbed off on me. For most of rehersal my brain was everywhere and I had REAL trouble concentrating on conversations with people. I had trouble forming sentances because of people's emotions. It was kinda hard to run rehersal after that. Anyway, does anyone have any advice for... protecting your mind from crap like that? Protection from your casts anger? Its not like they were mad about anything that was out of control, I explained to them what was happening and how things were going to work for the remainder of rehersals, and they were all fine with it. But still, what the hell?!? Anyway, sorry that this was pretty rant laden... Thank you for any advice, I'm exhausted.

set help
Hi everyone, I'm a senior in high school and I'm directing my own play. However, because of other things going on, I cant really have a "set" for my show (I.e. no big peices. Chairs and tables are ok). I can (and am encouraged to) use back drops and fly stuff out. I have some good ideas involving light, but does anyone know a good link for like, interpretational/representational sets?
Thank you!

Help with a different kind of play
Hi everyone! This is my first post here, but its also x-posted, but anyway... I'm going to try to direct a play. I have an idea about directing it that is a bit different than anything I've seen, but I think it can work. I just wanted some input from other actors/directors such as yourselves.

The "script" is a concept album, "Who will survive and what will become of them" By Murder By death. It tells the story of how the devil shows up to a small southwestern town then proceeds to destroy it psychologically and physically. I have an idea of what the scenes will be and some of the characters based on the songs.
Now, what I'm going to do is give anyone who wants to audition a way to listen to the music. In doing this, they're suppose to think of how a character they want to audition for relates to whats going on and how they feel and exist within the story. Then, come audition day, they improvise a scene with their character, instead of reading from the script.
Once I have a cast, each scene will be 60%/40% organic/structured (i.e. I'll tell people what is happening in the scene and point them where they need to go, but they come up with the action and dialogue through improv). And at each rehearsal I'll have a video camera and my assistant director will record good dialogue.
Anyway, thats the gist of the play i'm going to put on.

Hi! I have two questions. Maybe you guys can help me.

- What are the best headphones for editing? I have a G5 and use mostly Final Cut and imovie. The sound is crap and I really need some new headphones. Any suggestions?

- Know any really good Video Editing schools? Preferable in the Los Angeles area? Which are the top schools? Any ideas?
I was planning on transferring to CalARTS but there's no way I can afford it.
Right now I am in the Radio Television Film Department over at a community college, College of the Canyons and finishing my Bachelors general ed, and I'm kinda stuck on where to go... If anyone can help that would be great :)

Thanks so much!
